Ouarzazate, gateway to the desert On this tour of Ouarzazate, you’ll take a fabulous journey to Ait Benhaddou from Marrakech, enjoying breathtaking views of the valleys and desert landscapes made famous in great films such as Gladiator and Lawrence of Arabia. You’ll cross a breathtaking landscape and pass through Tizi-n’Tichka (2260m), the highest pass in North Africa. Discover an exceptional region characterized by the grandeur and beauty of diverse landscapes. We will stop to visit the famous fortified town (kasbah) of Ait Ben Haddou. It has been declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO and has served as the setting for numerous films. We will also visit the town of Ouarzazate, whose name is a Berber word meaning “without noise”. A visit to Taurirt, the former residence of the Glaouis (the old pashas of Marrakech). Free lunch at a local restaurant before returning to Marrakech.

What to see and do in Ouarzazate?

On your trip to Ait Benhaddou from Marrakech, our driver will pick you up from your riad or hotel at 07:00. We drive towards the High Atlas Mountains. We cross the Tichka Pass. It is a winding road at over 2260 meters above sea level. There are many Berber villages in the area. They offer a magnificent view of the High Atlas Mountains and the Tichka Pass. We take a break to take some photos in this beautiful area. The Kasbah of Ait Ben-Haddou is a UNESCO site and has served as the setting for numerous western films. It is located near a salty river. This Kasbah has served as the setting for famous films such as Gladiator, Prince of Persia, Scorpion King and others. This fortress is a landmark in the history of southern Morocco. We stroll through its alleys and take pictures of the picturesque part of the Kasbah. We enjoy an hour among the city walls and mud houses. Afterward, we will have the opportunity to take another break for lunch at a restaurant with a panoramic view of the Kasbah of Ait Ben Haddou. After the second break, we continue on to Atlas Studios. This is the studio where the filmmakers work on their films. The costumes of many western films are displayed here. Our journey continues to Ouarzazate, where we will visit the Taurirt kasbah. This was the official residence of the ruler of southern Morocco. Here you will learn about the history of the Kasbah and how the ruler of the Kasbah lives. Our itinerary will take us to the Kasbah of Tifultot, a ruined Kasbah in southern Morocco. At 4pm we leave the desert gate and drive back to Marrakech, the capital of palm trees or the Red City. We cross the Tichka Pass again and arrive in Marrakech at 07:00. Our driver takes you to your hotel or riad, and that’s the end of our services and the end of your experience to Ait Benhaddou from Marrakech.
